In addition, he said, he was drawn to the job because he had a friend who was a firefighter with the Jefferson Township Fire Department.Ĭompton attended Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia for his first two years of high school, then transferred to The Gow School near Buffalo N.Y., for his junior and senior years, graduating in 1990.Ĭompton said said his experiences at Fork Union and Gow definitely helped prepare him for pursuing a career as a firefighter. He said becoming a firefighter fulfilled a childhood wish. "It was a big thing for me then (in 2007) because it was right in the middle of going through our changes with the new second station and all of that."Ĭompton, 36, lives in Westerville with his wife and two children. "For several months, he ran a shift and handled the proper paperwork and I just thought he did a real nice job," he said.
